1. Herbal Spray

The herbal spray is one of the easiest and best home remedies to get rid of fleas fast.

Things You Need:

  • Vinegar-3 litres
  • Water-1 litres
  • Lemon juice- 16oz
  • Witch hazel- 8oz
  • Fresh vacuum bag-1
  • A sprayer


  1. First clean your house using a vacuum cleaner, which creates fresh air in and around your house.
  2. Add 1 litre of water, 16oz of lemon juice and 8oz of witch hazel to 3 litres of vinegar.
  3. Mix all these ingredients.
  4. Pour the solution into the spray bottle and shake the bottle well before you spray the liquid.
  5. Spray it on every nook and corners of your home like your carpets, window sills, furniture, floors etc.
  6. Repeat this process almost every day until the fleas are killed completely.

2. Salt

The simplest and cheapest remedy to kill the fleas is by using salt, which is easily available in your home.

Thing You Need:

  • Finely powdered salt( the quantity of salt depends upon the area of your home where you want to use the salt)
  • A mug
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Freshwater


  1. Take a mug full of water.
  2. Add the finely powdered salt to it and mix well.
  3. Sprinkle the salt water by using your fingers to all the corners of your home.
  4. Once the liquid is finished, again repeat the same process.
  5. Finally, clean your home with a vacuum cleaner.
  6. Use this home remedy every day to get rid of fleas.

3. Rosemary

Rosemary herb will help to control the occurrence of fleas at your home. They can be used as a powder, rinse or oil to kill the fleas from your house.

Method 1: Rosemary Herb with Fennel

Things You Need:

  • Rosemary (you can take all the ingredients as per your requirement but should take them in equal amounts only)
  • Rue
  • Fennel
  • Wormwood
  • Peppermint
  • Grinder
  • Water- as per the requirement


  1. Grind all the above ingredients in a grinder or mortar by using some water.
  2. Transfer the liquid into a mug and mix well.
  3. Sprinkle it using your fingers in and around your home.
  4. Repeat this process twice a week to get rid of fleas fast.

Note: If you have a cat, keep it away while sprinkling it as cats are allergic to rosemary herb.

Method 2: Rosemary Herb with Lemon

Things You Need:

  • Lemon slices-6
  • Rosemary leaves – A handful
  • Boiling water-1 litre
  • Geranium essential oil – 3to 4 drops
  • A spray bottle


  1. Take a large bowl of water.
  2. Add chopped rosemary leaves to it.
  3. Now add 6 sliced lemon pieces to it.
  4. Add enough water to boil the rosemary leaves and lemon slices.
  5. Finally, add geranium essential oil and mix it well.
  6. Cover the bowl with a lid and allow it to remain overnight.
  7. In the morning strain the liquid and transfer it to the sprayer.
  8. Spray the liquid in all the corners of your home.
  9. Repeat this process twice a week until you completely get rid of fleas in your house.

4.Horse Apple

Horse apple is generally used to remove the insects from the home and it is one of the traditional practices followed since years.

Things You Need:

  • Few fresh green horse apples (take them as per your requirement)


  1. Take some fresh green horse apples and cut each apple into two pieces.
  2. Place it in each corner of your home or at least one horse apple in each room.
  3. Allow it to remain on the respective place for few days as they are green horse apples and will be effective when they get dry.
  4. In few months of time, you can completely get rid of fleas in your house.

Note: Prefer to buy green horse apples instead of dry or ripe apples because the green fresh horse apple will stay for a longer period of time, which will help in killing fleas in your home.

5. Citrus Spray

The lemon spray will kill all the insects present in your home including the fleas because of its acidic properties.

Things You Need:

  • Lemons(take the lemons as per your requirement)
  • A spray bottle
  • Water – as per your requirement


  1. Take a medium-sized container.
  2. Add water to it.
  3. Cut the lemons into small pieces.
  4. Add the lemon pieces to the water.
  5. Boil the water with lemon pieces in it. Take out the container from the flame.
  6. Allow it to remain overnight.
  7. In the morning strain the liquid to the spray bottle.
  8. Spray the liquid on the areas of fleas.
  9. Repeat this process every day to get rid of fleas in the yard, as well as fleas in the house.

6. Pennyroyal Leaves

Pennyroyal leaf is a herb that acts as a repellent for removing fleas from your yard and home.

Things You Need:

  • Pennyroyal leaves – a handful.
  • A pestle
  • Cheesecloth


  1. Take a handful of pennyroyal leaves from your garden and wash them.
  2. Crush the leaves with the help of a pestle till the leaves release oil.
  3. Tie the crushed leaves in a cheesecloth in such a way that the leaves and its parts don’t fall on the ground.
  4. Now tie the cheesecloth to the corners of your home where you find the occurrence of fleas more.
  5. Follow this process until you get rid of fleas from your house

Note: Be extremely cautious while using pennyroyal leaves as they pose threats for animal and human health.

7. Dish Washing Liquid

It is not easy to trap the fleas alive and kill them, but the use of a dishwashing liquid makes the process simple to trap the fleas.

Things You Need:

  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Warm water
  • Candle
  • Bowl


  1. Take a bowl of warm water.
  2. Add a good amount of dishwashing liquid to it and stir well.
  3. At night switch off the lights in the room where there are more fleas.
  4. Light a candle and keep it near the bowl down the floor in the dark room.
  5. Allow it to remain overnight as fleas in the darkroom will get attracted to the light easily and will try to jump over the candle. At the same time, the aroma of the dishwashing liquid will pull the fleas into the liquid and fleas will get trapped in it.
  6. Remove the dead fleas next day morning. It is one of the simplest home remedies to get rid of fleas from the carpet as well as from your house.

Note: When you are using a candle in a closed room make sure that there are no things that will easily catch fire. If such things are there then you must be awake until the candle extinguishes fully.

8. Fleas Shampoo

A flea shampoo, made up of lavender oil and soapwort will easily kill the fleas hidden in your pets like dogs, cats etc, and at the same time will keep your home clean.

Things You Need:

  • Distilled water-2 cups
  • Dried soapwort-1 ½ tbsp
  • Cheesecloth or muslin
  • Towel
  • Lavender oil-1 ½ tbsp


  1. Take 2 cups of distilled water in a metallic container and boil it for some time.
  2. Add 1 ½ tbsp of dried soapwort to the water.
  3. Cover the container with a lid and boil it for 20 minutes.
  4. Now allow it to cool for some time by covering the mouth of the container with cheesecloth.
  5. Strain the liquid and then add 1 ½ tbsp of lavender essential oil to it and stir well.
  6. Wet your cats and dogs with this shampoo to kill the fleas on your pet.
  7. Repeat this process twice a week you for best results.

9. Citronella Oil

The best oil that is used as the home remedy for fleas is citronella oil, which you can use to get rid of all fleas on humans, as well as pets.

Things You Need:

  • Citronella oil -1tbsp
  • Tea tree oil – ½ tbsp
  • Lemongrass oil – ½ tbsp
  • Germanium oil -5 drops
  • Warm water -3 litres


  1. Take 3 litres of warm water.
  2. Add to it all the above-mentioned ingredients incorrect measurements mentioned above.
  3. Stir them well and mop your floor every day with this scented water.
  4. Repeat this process to get rid of fleas from your house

10. Diatomaceous Earth

Do you know what actually this Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is? DE is microscopic skeletal remains of unicellular algae-like plants called diatoms. It looks like fine flour. Diatoms are one type of algae that are present in both freshwater and also in salt water. Diatom cell walls are made up of silica. The hard shells of the fleas are vulnerable to the sharp edges of microscopic diatoms. The silica which is present in DE will cut the hard shells of the fleas and then dry them, which results in the destruction of the fleas including their larvae.

The DE, which belongs to the food category, is non-toxic to humans as well as to animals. First, you have to brush all the carpets and then vacuum clean them. Then wash off all the place of the house.

Things You Need:

  • Diatomaceous Earth – 1 cup


  1. Sprinkle the DE wherever the fleas are there. No problem, you can spray it on the carpets, pet beddings and wherever required.
  2. Leave the DE for 24 -48 hours. Fleas will die in 4 to 6 hours after spraying your home with DE, but it is better to leave in for some more time.
  3. Now clean all the powder and don’t forget to discard the vacuum bag.

Note: Buy the food grade DE only as it is non-toxic. But it will still irritate your eyes or throat. So wear a mask while using DE.

11. Boric Acid

Boric acid just works like salt in destroying the fleas. It acts as a dehydrating agent and causes dehydration in fleas, which in turn kills fleas.

Things You Need:

  • Boric acid – 1 cup
  • Shaker – 1


  1. Take a shaker and fill it with 1 cup of boric acid.
  2. Clean the carpets, furniture, and all other things wherever you want to spray it to get rid of flies.
  3. Take out all the bags, toys, etc., from the place where you need to spray the boric acid.
  4. Now shake the bottle and sprinkle the boric acid powder in thin layers.
  5. You can sprinkle wherever you think fleas are hidden.
  6. Now take a soft brush and put the boric acid into the carpet pile.
  7. Use a hand brush for upholstery to fill the boric acid in the gaps (boric acid discolors the fabrics, so better to test it before using).
  8. Leave it for 24 to 48 hours and then clean up all the places wherever you sprayed boric acid.
  9. Everyday cleaning is a must and after a month, wash all of your carpets, upholstery and wherever you have sprayed the boric acid.

Note: Yes, boric acid is non-toxic, but it is better to keep it away from kids and food items.

12. Flea Terminator Biscuit

Flea terminator biscuits will help you to get rid of the fleas from your house. Keep these biscuits in the places where you find more fleas.  Do you know how to make flea terminator biscuits? Here is its recipe, go through it.

Things You Need:

  • Beef bouillon – 3 cubes
  • Boiling water – 1 ½
  • Wheat flour – 2 cups
  • Cornmeal – 1 cup
  • Brewers’ yeast – 2/3 cup
  • Garlic powder – 1 ½ tbsp
  • Egg yolks – 2


  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. In the boiling water put the beef bouillon cubes. Let them dissolve.
  3. Now grease the cookie sheets.
  4. Take a bowl and mix the wheat flour, corn meal, brewers’ yeast and garlic powder all together.
  5. Add egg yolks and then pour the bouillon water while stirring.
  6. Mix all the ingredients well in order to make a firm dough.
  7. Roll the dough to ¼ inch thickness on a floured surface.
  8. You can cut it into different shapes as per your likeness by using cookie cutters.
  9. Place the cookies on the cookie sheets with the 1-inch distance between them.
  10. Now bake them for 20 minutes in the preheated oven and then turn off the oven.
  11. Leave the cookies inside the oven for minimum 3 hours or overnight as they will become harder then.
  12. Store the biscuits in an airtight container at the room temperature.

13. Nematodes and Water

Nematodes are the worms that enjoy killing the flea and cocoons. They are used in the yards or in outdoor areas to kill the fleas.

Things You Need:

  • Nematodes


  1. It is also important to follow some special instructions for watering to prevent the ground from drying too much as nematodes can’t survive in dry grounds.
  2. They can work well at ridding fleas in outdoor spaces.
  3. Nematodes work more effectively in moist, sandy soil, which is away from direct sunlight.
  4. The worms cannot survive in direct sunlight.
  5. Nematodes are available in pet stores, nurseries and online also.
  6. Use this remedy regularly to get rid of fleas fast.

14. Botanic Dust

Both botanic dust and boric acid are natural pesticides to destroy the fleas. Boric acid poses no danger for humans as well as for pets as it has a low toxic level.

Things You Need:

  • Botanic dust – 1 cup
  • Boric acid – 1 cup


  1. Take botanic dust and boric acid and mix both of them.
  2. Now dust this mix at all the places wherever you find fleas.
  3. You can also dust it all over the house to avoid fleas.
  4. Leave it for a day and then clean and wash off the area.

15. Baking Soda and Salt

Carpets and rugs are the perfect places for the fleas to hide, so it is necessary to clean the carpets as well as the rugs during a flea infestation. You can use baking soda and salt to get rid of fleas in the carpet.

Things You Need:

  • Baking soda – 1 cup
  • Salt – ½ cup


  1. First, you have to sprinkle the salt on the carpet and then the baking soda.
  2. Now take a broomstick and sweep the carpet from left to right and then right to left, so that both the baking soda and salt will get absorbed into the carpet.
  3. Sprinkle salt and baking soda twice in between the week.
  4. During this 1 week period of time, all the fleas will die.
  5. You can try it for other things in your house too.

16. Flea Collars

  1. Take one flea collar and cut it into 3 separate and equal pieces.
  2. Place each piece under the cushion, carpets and other places where there are more fleas.
  3. It is better to drop a piece of flea collar in your vacuum bag to kill the fleas if there are any.

17. Eucalyptus and Wintergreen

  • Eucalyptus oil – 5 to 6 drops

18. Bay Leaves

  • Bay leaves – 2 or 3 cups


  1. Take bay leaves and sprinkle them on your furniture and upholstery.
  2. You can also sprinkle them inside the pet’s kennel, bedding and wherever you want.
  3. It is a good idea to plant bay leaves near the kennel and also in your garden.
  4. Follow this method regularly until all the fleas are killed.

19. Hot Water

If there is a flea infestation at your home, then it is a must to wash your carpets and rugs where usually fleas stay, with hot water. Hot water will destroy all the fleas in the carpets and rugs.

Things You Need:

  • Hot water – 3 tubs
  • Detergent – 4 cups


  1. Take 3 tubs of hot water and add 4 cups of detergent powder to it (take a large amount of detergent powder)
  2. Now, put the carpets and rugs in that water.
  3. Leave it for 1 to 2 hours and then wash off.
  4. You can also use the washing machine to wash them.
  5. If you feel tired to wash them, then give all of your carpets and rugs for steam treatment.

20. Homemade Flea Spray

Of course, you can get a flea spray from the market but it definitely contains some chemicals, which are not safe for you. It is not a big thing to make a homemade flea spray, which is herbal also. Know here how to make the flea spray.

Things You Need:

  • Lemon – 6
  • Rosemary leaves – 1 cup
  • Boiling water – 1 liter
  • Geranium essential oils – 4 drops
  • Spray bottle – 1


  1. Take all the 6 lemons and make thin slices.
  2. Put the lemon slices into a bowl and chop the rosemary leaves.
  3. Add the chopped leaves to the lemon slices.
  4. Now add boiling water to the lemon slices and the rosemary leaves.
  5. Add geranium oil to it and cover the bowl and leave it overnight.
  6. Next day morning, strain the water.
  7. Fill the spray bottle with that water.
  8. You should spray this solution near your bed and wherever it is needed.
  9. By spraying this daily, you can get rid of the fleas in your house.
