Michael, a 30-year-old lawyer, experiences frequent headache, but he doesn’t like popping a Tylenol or a Motrin for one.  Sometimes also he reaches home with a headache after a long stressful day. And he was just searching for the ways to get rid of headache faster.

2. Cluster Headaches:

Cluster headaches are similar to migraines. They are characterized by severe pain on one side of the head, watery eyes, drooping eye lids and blocked nose on the same side of the pain. You would feel a dull and continuous ache behind your eyes. The headache may occur in cluster cycles. They can last for a short period of 15 minutes or as long as 3 hours. The cluster cycle could be 24 hours with headaches recurring as many as 8 times or a cluster cycle could be for a few weeks with headaches recurring every day. They may leave you uneasy, restless and sometimes interrupt your daily activities.

3. Sinus Headaches:

Sinus headaches occur due to the inflammation caused by sinus blockage. In this type of headache, you will feel a deep and consistent pain on the forehead, bridge of the nose and cheekbones. You may feel that your face has swollen and become tender. You may also experience a fever. This type of headache interrupts with your daily activities and your pain may get worse with movement.

4. Rebound Headaches:

 Sometimes overuse of headache medication can also render the brain overactive and trigger a rebound headache. Common headache medications contain caffeine, which is effective in curing a headache, but also makes you more vulnerable to another headache.

Migraine is a chronic neurological disease, which causes frequent headaches. Migraines are typically characterized by throbbing pain in one-half of the head, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to smell, sound, and light. It gets worse with any physical activities and puts a halt to your daily activities. Migraine is hereditary. There is no exact cause known for migraine headaches. However, some people might have specific triggers, which include food additives like monosodium glutamate, specific odors, hunger or skipped meals, certain medications, hormones and menstruation etc.

Another easy way to make a hot compress is – Take 2 small towels. Soak one in water. Rinse out the excess. Now fold the wet towel and place it inside a microwave safe Ziploc bag. Do not seal the bag. Place this bag with the wet towel in the microwave and warm it for 1 minute or until it becomes warm. Take this bag out, seal it and wrap it in the dry towel. A gentle relaxing head massage can help relieve tension and sinus headache. Mix a few drops of your favorite essential oil with the carrier oil like the sweet almond oil and have a gentle soothing oil massage for headache.  For 1 oz. carrier oil, add 5-6 drops of chamomile, lavender or peppermint oil. You can take a little oil in your fingers and massage gently on the scalp, on the forehead, temples and the back of the neck.
