In simple terms, psoriasis definition would be that it is an autoimmune disease, which targets the body’s defense system by attacking the healthy white blood cells present in the body. Home Remedies for Psoriasis:

Psoriasis medication, topical application of ointment and creams may seem like an easy way to get rid of this skin disorder but often the underlying issue of psoriasis is left untreated. Sometimes the prescribed medicines may even cause side effects and complications too. This is when one needs to look for easy home remedies for psoriasis, which will provide them with long-term relief and even avoids the possibilities of reoccurrence of this skin disorder.

1. Turmeric

TurmericTurmeric is a powerful herb, rich in anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties as it has an active ingredient called curcumin. This ingredient is helpful in treating and minimizing the signs of psoriasis and psoriasis arthritis.

Things we need:

  • Turmeric -1 tsp
  • Water – 1tbsp
  • A bowl
  • A clean cloth


  1. Take 1 tsp of turmeric in a bowl.
  2. Add 1 tbsp of water to the turmeric and mix well to form a thick smooth paste.
  3. Apply a thin layer of this turmeric paste on psoriasis affected area before going to bed.
  4. Wrap the affected area with a clean cloth to keep the turmeric intact in the place for the whole night.
  5. Next day morning remove the cloth and wash the area with warm water.
  6. Follow this process every day till you get complete relief from psoriasis.

Apart from those psoriatic patients can intake turmeric extract capsules twice a day after meals. Alternatively one can even include turmeric powder in food preparations to get relief from the different psoriasis symptoms. It is even recommended to intake a turmeric extract capsule as it has more amounts of active curcumin than turmeric powder, which we take in our daily diet.

2. Aloe Vera

  1. Slit open an aloe vera leaf with a knife.
  2. Remove the fresh aloe vera gel from the aloe vera leaf with the help of a spoon.
  3. Apply this gel liberally on the infected area of psoriasis.
  4. Later wrap the infected area with a plastic sheet for letting the moisture seep into the skin and retain the moisture in the skin for a longer period of time. This process with heal the dry and the inflamed skin, and reduce the scaling as well.
  5. Follow this procedure 3 times a day or until you get substantial relief from psoriasis.

3. Dead Sea Salt

Dead Sea salt is well known for its therapeutic and healing properties since ages as it has a rich mineral base. It is even recommended by the national psoriasis foundation that a soak in Dead Sea salt- infused warm water helps in alleviating the itching sensation and removes scales caused due to psoriasis.

Things we need:

  1. Warm water
  2. Dead Sea salt- 1 tsp
  3. A fragrance-free moisturizer


  1. Fill the bathtub with warm water and make sure that the water is lukewarm.
  2. Add the Dead Sea salts to the water and stir it well with your hand to dissolve the salt properly. Later soak your body in the warm Dead Sea salt-infused water for 15 minutes.
  3. Later have a shower as usual to remove the salt and dead skin cell residue.
  4. After a shower, it is a must to apply a moisturizer liberally all over the infected area for speeding the skin’s healing process.
  5. This process can be repeated for minimum 3 days for noticing the sign of improvement in the skin or until the recovery process is completed.

4. Oats

OatmealOats is a natural skin soother and is proven to be beneficial for psoriasis treatment. Its use treats itchy skin and reduces the rash and redness that occur due to psoriasis.

Things we need:

  • Oats- 1 cup
  • Water- ½ cup
  • A damp washcloth


  1. Grind oats and water together in a blender till the mix forms a fine paste.
  2. Apply this paste on the affected area and make sure that the paste is not thick or too runny.
  3. Let this application be on the skin for 15 minutes.
  4. Wipe off the paste with a damp washcloth while the paste is still moist because this will help in not stretching the affected area further and remove the paste easily.
  5. This procedure can be repeated thrice a week or until one notices improvement in the psoriasis

5. Apple Cider Vinegar

Method 1: Apple Cider Vinegar Scalp Rinse

Things we need:

  • Apple cider vinegar- 1 cup
  • Warm water- 1 cup


  1. Take the 1-to-1 ratio of warm water and apple cider vinegar.
  2. Mix this well.
  3. Wash your scalp with this solution for getting rid of the burning and itching sensation caused by scalp psoriasis.
  4. This process can be repeated thrice a week for long term relief.

Method 2: Apple Cider Vinegar Bath Soak

Things we need:

  • Apple cider vinegar- 1 cup
  • Warm water- 1 gallon


  1. Fill in the bath tub with 1 gallon of warm water.
  2. Add apple cider vinegar to the water.
  3. Soak yourself in the water for 15 minutes or wash the infected area with this water solution.
  4. Later wipe yourself dry and moisturize the skin well.
  5. This process can be repeated once a day for 3 days or more for faster recovery from plaque psoriasis or erythrodermic psoriasis.

Method 3: Apple Cider Vinegar for Nail Psoriasis

Things we need:

  • Apple cider vinegar- 1cup
  • Cotton balls- 2 to 3


  1. Take a bowl and fill it up with apple cider vinegar.
  2. Soak your fingernails or toenails in the vinegar for 15 minutes.
  3. One can alternatively use cotton balls soaked in apple cider vinegar for the application on the infected nails.
  4. Later rinse with plain water and wipe dry the fingernails and toenails.
  5. This process can be repeated thrice a week for relief from nail psoriasis infection.

6. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has potent antiseptic qualities, which are beneficial for treating the skin problems and infections related to scalp psoriasis, psoriasis on face or plaque psoriasis. Tea tree oil application is an easiest and the most effective home remedy for removing the dry and dead cells for alleviating the skin’s natural healing process.

Things we need:

  • Tea tree oil- 1tsp
  • Washcloth- 1
  • Warm water- ½ cup


  1. Take 1 tsp of tea tree oil on your finger tips and apply it gently on psoriasis affected area.
  2. Do not massage the skin with pressure as it can aggravate the signs of psoriasis.
  3. Let the tea tree oil get soaked by the skin for 10 to 15 minutes.
  4. Later take a washcloth and dip it in ½ cup of warm water and squeeze out the excess water.
  5. Then gently wipe out the excess oil from the infected skin so that the skin doesn’t attract dust.
  6. Repeat this process for three days to treat psoriasis

7. Coconut Oil

This oil is even very beneficial for boosting the immune system of the body. It also significantly improves the count of white blood cells in the body. Method 1: Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

Things we need:

  • Extra virgin coconut oil- quantity as per the requirement


  • Consuming 1tps of extra virgin coconut oil twice a day for 3 to 4 days can reduce and completely cure the different types of psoriasis.
  • One can even apply warm extra virgin coconut oil on the scalp for treating itching and burning sensation in psoriasis scalp.

Method 2: Coconut Oil Soak

  • Coconut oil- 2 tsp
  • Milk- 1 glass
  • Epsom salt- 1 tbsp.
  • Water- 1 gallon


  1. Fill the bath tub with warm water.
  2. Then add 2 tsp of coconut oil into a glass of milk and pour this oil and milk solution into the warm water.
  3. Later add the Epsom salt to the water and let it dissolve in the water completely (adding Epsom salt will benefit in providing extra healing element for psoriasis affected skin).
  4. Soak in this water solution for 15 minutes or wash the affected area with this water for relief from skin inflammation and dry skin.
  5. Lastly, shower with plain water and pat dry your skin.

8. Fish Oil

  • Exposure to sunlight is the cheapest and easiest alternative for psoriasis arthritis treatment and many other types of psoriasis as exposure to sunlight increases the production of Vitamin-D for treating psoriasis.
  • Exercise and maintain a healthy weight.
  • Avoid excessive smoking and alcohol consumption as these can worsen the psoriasis
  • Avoid red meat and gluten-based food products as these foods can aggravate the skin condition.
  • Consume lots of fresh colorful fruits and vegetables in preventive psoriasis diet as fresh fruits and vegetables are loaded with disease-fighting antioxidants and rich in fiber, which help in keeping the weight under control.

Psoriasis is an embarrassing and a painful skin disorder, which cannot be ignored for a longer period of time. The best respite for psoriasis without prolonging this skin disease is to try the effective and very handy home remedies for psoriasis that are mentioned above.
